What Makes a Hidden Gem?

A hidden gem is not just a place that is hard to find. It is a place that surprises you. A spot that makes you say "I did not know this was here" and then want to tell everyone about it. Delran has several of these, and they are a big part of what makes the town special.

Some of these are well-known to longtime residents but fly under the radar for newcomers. Others are genuinely off the beaten path. All of them are worth discovering. And because Delran is a community that shares recommendations, many of these gems became known through word of mouth.

Delran's Hidden Gems

Spots that might not be on the main list but are absolutely worth your time.

Lake Lonnie

Tucked away in a residential area of Delran, Lake Lonnie is a small, scenic lake that many residents drive past without noticing. It is a popular spot for local anglers, but mostly it is just a peaceful place to sit and watch the water. In the fall, the surrounding trees put on a beautiful color display. Not a destination, but a quiet escape. A reminder that you do not need a big park to find peace in nature.

L & M Bakery's Cannoli

Everyone knows L & M Bakery for their bread and pastries. But the cannoli are a hidden gem within a well-known spot. Made fresh, with a perfectly crisp shell and a creamy, not-too-sweet filling. They sell out on weekends. If you see them in the case, grab them. Bob's personal favorite. This is the kind of local secret that makes Delran feel like home.

Amico Island at Sunrise

Amico Island Park is well-known, but most people visit on weekend mornings or afternoons. The real hidden gem is sunrise at the park. The east-facing view over the Delaware River catches the first light of day. The mist rises off the water. The birds are most active. And you will often have the entire park to yourself. It is a completely different experience from the busy weekend crowds.

Historic Bridgeboro

The Bridgeboro section of Delran is a historic village that feels like a step back in time. With its older homes, tree-lined streets, and proximity to the river, it is a wonderful area for a quiet walk. Many Delran residents have never explored this part of town. The architecture, the quiet streets, and the sense of history make it a hidden gem for walkers and history buffs.

Pennington Park Disc Golf

Just minutes from Delran in Delanco, Pennington Park has a disc golf course that many locals do not know about. It is free to play, well-maintained, and offers a fun activity for all ages and skill levels. Bring your own discs or buy a starter set online. A great way to spend an afternoon outdoors without the cost or commitment of traditional golf.

The Food Court at Top Pot

Top Pot K BBQ is known for their Korean BBQ and hot pot, but the food court area also has several other vendors offering Korean street food. Fried chicken, dumplings, bubble tea, and more. It is a great spot for a casual, affordable meal that feels like a mini food tour. The variety means everyone in your group can find something they want.

Bob's Personal Hidden Gem

A note from your local guide

"My personal hidden gem in Delran is the quiet bench at the end of the trail at Amico Island Park. Most people walk the main loop and leave. But if you follow the path all the way to the tip of the peninsula, there is a bench overlooking the confluence of the Delaware River and Rancocas Creek. I have sat there many times watching the barges go by, thinking about nothing in particular. It is my favorite spot in town. I will not tell you exactly where it is. Part of the fun is finding it yourself."
